Defect notice rectification

Ausgrid, Endeavour Energy and Essential Energy issue defect notices against unsafe or non-compliant service equipment, and they carry deadlines backed by disconnection powers. Rectification usually needs a Level 2 provider because the defective equipment sits on the network side of your installation.

Scope

What this covers

  • Assessment of the notice against the equipment actually on site

  • Consumer mains, point-of-attachment and service line rectification

  • Private pole replacement where the notice cites pole condition

  • Switchboard-adjacent rectification coordinated with a licensed electrician where scope crosses the boundary

  • Completion paperwork so the network can close the notice

Timing

When it's needed

A defect notice arrives with a reference number, the issuing network, the cited defect and a rectification date. Acting early preserves scheduling choice; leaving it late risks disconnection and re-energisation costs on top of the rectification itself.

Never touch fallen service lines, exposed conductors or damaged network equipment. Keep people clear and report life-threatening electrical hazards to the network operator or emergency services immediately.

What shapes the scope

Level 2 service work in NSW may only be performed by accredited service providers authorised under the ASP scheme for the relevant class of work. Ask any provider for their ASP accreditation number, its classes, and their electrical licence, and verify both before work starts.
