Level 2 questions
What is a Level 2 electrician?
An electrician working for an accredited service provider (ASP) authorised under the NSW ASP scheme to work on the service equipment between the electricity network and a property's main switch: overhead and underground services, consumer mains, metering and disconnection work that a standard electrical licence does not cover.
Do I need Level 2 or a regular electrician?
If the job touches the service line, point of attachment, consumer mains, meter or the network connection itself, it is Level 2 work. Wiring past the main switch (power points, lighting, circuits) is standard licensed electrical work. Many projects need both, sequenced together.
I received a defect notice. How urgent is it?
Treat the printed rectification date as firm. Networks can disconnect supply where notices lapse, and re-energisation adds cost and delay. Early assessment also preserves the option of bundling rectification with other planned work.
Which network am I on?
Broadly: Ausgrid covers inner Sydney, the east, North Shore and Central Coast; Endeavour Energy covers the west, southwest, Blue Mountains and Illawarra; Essential Energy covers the rural fringe and regional NSW. Your electricity distributor is printed on your bill.
Does a three-phase upgrade need network approval?
Yes. A connection application to your network business establishes what the local infrastructure can supply. The physical works (service, consumer mains and metering) follow the approved connection offer.
Can you work with my builder or electrician?
Level 2 scope is routinely sequenced around builders, demolition contractors, solar installers and licensed electricians. Disconnections, temporary supplies and reconnections are programmed to match the site schedule.
Never touch fallen service lines, exposed conductors or damaged network equipment. Keep people clear and report life-threatening electrical hazards to the network operator or emergency services immediately.
